Science

We have completed Unit 3-' Keeping Warm'. We learnt about temperature, thermometers, how to use lab sheets, facts such as Astronomer Galileo Galilei who invented the first thermometer, Scientist Gabriel Daniel Fahrenheit who made the first modern thermometer,etc. The students also learnt about thermal conductors, insulators, and various other facts and information related to temperature and thermometers. The students had great fun conducting experiments in the Science Laboratory and they loved the experience. The students also did presentations based on this unit in pairs where they read, researched, made creative projects and then presented them in class. All the presentations were amazing and all the children enjoyed the whole process of research, project and presentation. Their efforts were commendable and amazing. We ended this unit with a quiz.

We have started with our new topic this month. We are doing Units 4 & 5- 'Separating Solids and Liquids' and 'Gases Around Us'. In these two chapters we will focus on properties of materials- solids, liquids and gases, changing materials, separating materials, heating and cooling, dissolving solids, air, different gases, moving gases and states of matter. The students will be conducting many easy experiments based on these topics so as to better understand the units.

The students can keep reading these units from their Science Student Book. These two units are very interesting and fun to learn. We hope the students will enjoy the lessons.

The students conducted an experiment using candle, butter and 3 materials- plastic, wood and metal spoons. This was done to see which material is a good conductor and which is an insulator

The students made a prediction before the experiment saying that butter in metal spoon will melt faster compared to the other spoons because metal is a good conductor

Their prediction was correct!

The children have been exploring the world of Charlie. We have been reading how writers would, bringing our attention to the various Literary Devices (figures of speech) found in the delectable writing of Roald Dahl.

Our focus has been on paragraph writing, elements of a story and grammar topics like prepositions, apostrophe, parts of speech in our English classes as well.

Children enjoyed writing a creative piece for their yearbook.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Our SST classes have been going on in full swing! After all the presentations done by the children we have now completed our lessons in Geography and Religion of Ancient Egypt. The classes have been filled with discussions, atlas work, research and fact finding.

In the coming month we will be focusing on Art and Architecture, Politics, Economy and Society of The ancient Egyptian civilization.

Please note that after every mini lesson we will be giving them a quiz. Also note that there will be on-going assessments done as we do class activities.

Math

The students are thorough with multiplication and short division. They are learning long division with great enthusiasm and interest. They are all doing well in long division (with & without remainders) and students have also learnt to check whether their division sums are correct. We encourage them to continue practicing all the concepts everyday.

We have begun our new unit on Measurement. This unit will include Calendar and Time. The students are learning all the concepts related to this topic which includes- year, leap year, months, weeks, days, duration of weeks, hours, minutes, seconds, how to tell time, O'clock, half past, quarter to, quarter past and elapsed time.

Along with the new unit we will also be revising our other concepts and will continue are classes with speed drills, quizzes, mental Math, Math games, written work in notebook, workbooks and worksheets as usual.

During the month of February, Grade 3 continued to explore semiquaver rhythms, as well as created their own rhythms which they then presented to the class. They also had a Show and Tell in which they shared their favourite musicians and bands with their peers.

Library

All about words - Dictionary activity!

Knowing the meaning, pronunciation and definition of every word is impossible, using reference books like dictionaries, thesaurus is a must. This activity encourages students to work in small groups, use a dictionary to find the meaning and definition of new words listed in the worksheet.

Home Economics

The students worked on their first page decor of Home Economics recipe book and made heart shaped cards for Valentine's Day.
